THE NEOLITHIC HERITAGE IN THE VALE OF GLAMORGAN

The Great Cairn

The Great Cairn at Tinkinswood

My name is Peter Sain ley Berry and for the past thirty years or so my hobby has been researching the Neolithic Heritage of the Vale of Glamorgan, which lies in Wales to the west of Cardiff in the UK.

My conclusions are that the Neolithic people (as befits a civilisation that lasted some 3,000 years stretching from Scandinavia to Spain) were far more developed than the designation ‘stone-age’ suggests, developing writing and mathematics to construct their monuments with the necessary precision.

On this site you will find some results of my work:

  •   TINKINSWOOD -  An illustrated account showing how the Tinkinswood Burial Cairn has been positioned with great accuracy in relation to geographical features and other Neolithic sites.
  •  MEASUREMENT - A discussion about the measuring techniques used by the Neolithic people entitled  ‘The Megalithic Yard, The Pole, Stonehenge and the Circumference of the Earth’
  • NEOLITHIC WRITING - A discussion of the probability of the Neolithic people having had the ability to write - originally given as a talk and entitled ‘Did Writing Originate in the Vale of Glamorgan?’
  • A UNIT OF MEASURE (pdf) - A discussion of Neolithic units of measure entitled ‘Thom - Right about the Measure, Wrong about the Unit?’
